Under the directives of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and in line with His Highness' vision to enhance water security in the emirate, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) is continuing to implement a package of strategic projects alongside the Hamriyah Independent Water Desalination Plant, the foundation stone of which was laid by His Highness. The plant will have a production capacity of 90 million gallons per day.
Strengthening infrastructure
Eng. Faisal Al Serkal, Director of the Water Department at SEWA, explained that the authority is implementing three strategic projects. These include three pumping stations and nine reservoirs with a total capacity of 180 million gallons in the Al Zubair, Al Badie and Al Burair areas.
There will also be main water transmission lines, which are approximately 245 km long. The total cost of the projects is Dhs4 billion. These projects will strengthen the emirate's water infrastructure and ensure the transportation of produced water to Sharjah City and the Central Region.
He announced that work has begun on the project to install the main water pipeline from Al Houma to Al Falaj station.
The pipeline will have a diameter of 1,600 mm, a length of 8 km and will cost approximately Dhs105.5 million to build. It is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of this year.
It is part of a 77-km transmission line from Al Hamriya station to Al Falaj station, costing Dhs645 million in total.
A contractor has been assigned to begin work, and contractors have also been appointed for the reservoirs and pumping stations.
The Al Zubair project will cost Dhs505 million, the Al Badie project Dhs460 million, and the Al Burair project Dhs446.85 million. These projects are expected to be completed in Q3 2027.
