The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has decided to allow Emiratis to renew their passports up to one full year before their respective expiry dates, instead of the previous six-month period.
Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi, Chairman of ICP, issued a decision stating that Emiratis may renew their passports if they are valid for one year or less, adding that the service would be available to Emiratis starting Monday, August 18, via its smart services system.
Al Shamsi affirmed that the decision would contribute to improving the quality of life for Emiratis and enabling them to plan their trips abroad in advance and complete their transactions by expanding the scope of use of digital official documents and providing pioneering, proactive institutional services.
He pointed out that the UAE passport is at the top of the world’s passport rankings in terms of strength and reliability among countries around the world.
The decision represents a significant boost to the UAE passport’s ranking and contributes to making the passport issuance and renewal system and services a pioneering and inspiring model for other countries in the region and the world, he added.
