As part of its ongoing mission to promote community-based learning and environmental awareness among younger generations, Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) has announced the launch of its signature museum programme, the “Junior Aquarist,” at Sharjah Aquarium from Aug.11 to 14.
Designed for children aged 9 to 13, the immersive four-day programme offers participants a unique opportunity to explore the world of marine life through a carefully curated schedule of activities, tours, and hands-on workshops that combine scientific knowledge with practical experience.
It encourages curiosity, discovery, and a sense of environmental responsibility.
Participants will step into the role of marine biologists through a series of engaging experiences that combine theoretical learning with hands-on practice. The programme begins with an introductory tour of Sharjah Aquarium to explore native marine species.
This is followed by practical activities such as preparing and feeding fish, observing feeding sessions at the main tank, learning about the diver’s role in caring for marine life, conducting water quality tests using advanced equipment, and examining the technical systems that ensure the health and safety of aquatic environments.
Children will also gain insights into water circulation systems and their role in maintaining healthy aquatic habitats.
Throughout the programme, participants will engage with aquarium specialists and technicians, contributing to real-life tasks such as cleaning filtration systems and analyzing the physical and chemical properties of water.
