Abu Dhabi Police, in collaboration with the Monitoring and Control Centre and as part of Darb Al Salama 2 campaign, released a video of an accident caused by driver distraction and lack of attention during a sudden halt in traffic.
The video released Abu Dhabi Police on X account, shows a white SUV driving on the fast lane, oblivious to a long queue of stationary vehicles ahead. The driver tries to swerve to the right at the last moment, but fails. Instead, it crashes into another SUV in front of it, badly damaging it from the rear.
In the same video, a black SUV on the fast lane crashes into an another vehicle in the adjacent lane, causing it to turn over on its side.
The police warned drivers against the dangers of distractions, such as using mobile phones for browsing the internet, social media, making calls, taking photos, and other behaviours that can result in serious traffic accidents.
Abu Dhabi Police reminded drivers that the penalty for being distracted while driving in any form is Dhs800 and 4 traffic points.
