A devastating road accident in Oman claimed the lives of three Emiratis and left nine others injured, including five children, early Friday morning.
The tragic incident occurred on Sultan Said Bin Taimur Road, shortly after the town of Maqshin in the Dhofar Governorate.
According to a statement released by the Royal Oman Police, the fatal collision involved three vehicles and was reported at approximately 7:00 a.m. Preliminary investigations suggest that five individuals lost their lives in the crash — two Omani nationals and three Emiratis.
Emergency response teams were dispatched to the site immediately after the incident, with ambulances and rescue personnel working swiftly to evacuate the victims. A total of eleven people were injured in the crash, including two Omanis and nine Emiratis. Notably, five of the injured Emiratis are children, police confirmed.
Mangled vehicles are parked on the side of the road in Oman.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the crash, although early reports indicate that excessive speed or a possible loss of vehicle control may have been contributing factors.
The tragic news has sent shockwaves through both Oman and the United Arab Emirates, with condolences pouring in for the families of the victims. UAE authorities are reportedly coordinating with their Omani counterparts to provide support to the injured and repatriate the deceased.
The Royal Omani Police have renewed thier call for motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations, especially on long-distance highways like those in Dhofar, which can pose significant risks due to their remote nature and high-speed limits.
This incident marks one of the most severe cross-border road tragedies in recent months involving UAE citizens and highlights ongoing concerns around road safety in the region.
A badly damaged sits on the side of the road.
Further updates will follow as authorities release more details.
Omani Police Aviation conducted the transfer of the deceased to Thumrait Hospital in Oman, in preparation for handing over the bodies of the Emirati victims to their families, following the completion of all necessary arrangements.
The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Abu Dhabi extended its deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to all the injured.
The embassy also urged travellers to Dhofar Governorate to exercise caution and practise safe driving, especially when travelling by road, to ensure the safety of all.
It is worth noting that Emirati visitors are the largest group of tourists to Dhofar after Omanis in recent years. Most Emiratis travel to Dhofar by road, while others use direct flights, particularly following the availability of affordable car shipping services. Many prefer this option to save time and avoid the long drive, which can take between 10 to 12 hours.
