Dubai Police arrested a fraudster involved in posting fake advertisements on websites and social media platforms, falsely claiming to offer rental apartments at attractive prices. The arrest was part of "Be Aware of Fraud" campaign.
Dubai Police, via X platform, urged the public to immediately report any suspicious ads or fraud attempts through the Dubai Police smart app or by calling 901. They emphasised that awareness and cooperation are the first line of defence against such crimes. The police explained that the fraudster targeted victims searching for accommodation, requesting them to transfer money as a deposit or down payment to secure the booking. He would then cut off communication after receiving the funds without fulfilling any commitments.
They noted that such actions constitute electronic fraud, a crime punishable by law, and fall under offenses strictly handled by the Anti-Fraud Centre. The police warned against such tactics, advising the public to refuse transferring any money before verifying the landlord’s identity, property ownership, and documenting contracts through official and approved channels.
