The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil, and Administrative Cases Court has ordered seven men to return Dhs800,000 and pay an additional Dhs50,000 in compensation for damages incurred by the victim, after they seized his money under the pretext of investment.
The victim filed a lawsuit against the seven men, demanding the return of Dhs800,000 with 12% annual interest from the date of the legal claim until full repayment. Additionally, he sought Dhs200,000 in compensation for material and moral damages.
The plaintiff had previously filed a criminal case against the suspects for embezzling the Dhs800,000. The court issued a verdict in absentia, convicting the first, third, fourth, fifth, and seventh suspects and fining them Dhs20,000 each. The sixth suspect was fined Dhs300, while the second was sentenced to two months in prison. The eighth suspect was acquitted. The court also ordered the convicted suspects to pay court fees.
The court noted that the suspects did not appeal the criminal verdict, rendering it final. It further stated that the criminal judgment established the suspects’ unlawful possession of the plaintiff’s money. As a result, the court ordered them to jointly repay the plaintiff Dhs800,000, along with Dhs50,000 in compensation for the material and moral damages incurred.
