In celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Dubai Police organized two awareness exhibitions at Al Reef Mall in Deira and BurJuman Shopping Center in Bur Dubai, which aimed at raising the community awareness about the drugs dangers, as well as strengthening the families’ roles in safeguarding their children from this critical issue.
Under the patronage of His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, this event is part of a series of events designed to educate community members and empower them to avoid falling into the trap of substance abuse.
His Excellency Major General Eid bin Thani, Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, underscored that International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a vital opportunity to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and to emphasize the necessity of collective efforts in tackling this critical issue that threatens communities and families at all levels.
Maj. Gen. Eid bin Thani reaffirmed Dubai Police’s commitment to intensifying its fight against drugs under the umbrella of the Ministry of Interior and promoting awareness of the associated risks through all available channels, aiming to establish a robust defense against this pressing problem for both individuals and society. He noted that the exhibitions are specifically designed to empower families in drug prevention by equipping parents with the tools needed to protect their loved ones, address risky behaviors, and foster positive communication.
Meanwhile, Brigadier Dr. Abdul Rahman Sharaf Al Maamari, Director of Hemaya International Centre, emphasized that the exhibition highlighted key legal provisions that foster a supportive environment for families addressing addiction issues. Notably, Article 89 of the UAE Law on Combating Drug Trafficking and Psychotropic Substances stipulates that individuals who voluntarily seek help for addiction must receive treatment support without legal repercussions.
