Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) has implemented several developmental projects and achieved significant milestones in upgrading the electricity network in the Central Region.
This includes improvements to both high-voltage and low-voltage networks across 15 locations in Al Dhaid, Mleiha, Al Madam, and Al Bataeh. These efforts are part of SEWA’s ongoing initiatives to enhance infrastructure and improve services for citizens and residents.
Engineer Khalifa Al Teneiji, Director of the Central Region at SEWA, explained that the electricity network development projects in the Central Region are ongoing. He added that over the past months, SEWA has installed 81.7 kilometres of electrical cables as part of its infrastructure modernisation plan.
This includes replacing large sections of the network with higher-efficiency cables capable of greater load-bearing capacity, reducing energy losses, and enhancing network stability and efficiency.
Al Teneiji noted that electricity has been connected to 45 projects in residential, agricultural, industrial, and government areas to meet the growing demand for electrical energy, particularly in regions experiencing rapid urban and economic growth.
Additionally, as part of its strategic plan to improve services and enhance the reliability of the electrical supply, SEWA has begun installing new substations in multiple locations.
A comprehensive plan has also been developed to eliminate overhead lines in the region and replace them with underground cables, with work underway to implement this vital project in the Central Region.
Among the prominent government projects where electricity has been connected are the Dairy Farm, Sharjah Safari, Friday Market, Wheat Farm, Jubail Market, Al Dhaid University, Falconers’ Club, Wildlife Museum, Al Dhaid Mosque, Al Sahwa School, and Nizwa School.
Al Teneiji emphasised that SEWA is committed to continuous service development in line with the highest technical standards, aligning with Sharjah’s vision to support infrastructure, achieve sustainable development, and provide reliable and safe electricity services to all sectors.
