The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has launched a set of smart traffic signals integrated into an advanced system designed to implement the “Green Traffic” initiative.
This system aims to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and boost road safety, aligning with SRTA’s ongoing infrastructure development efforts across the emirate.
Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA, stated that this initiative is part of a larger package of smart projects to enhance the emirate’s transport sector.
By adopting the latest global technologies, SRTA seeks to elevate road infrastructure efficiency and provide innovative solutions that support sustainability and smart urban transformation.
The “Green Traffic” system is a major advancement in traffic management, helping reduce wait times, ease congestion, and ensure safer pedestrian and vehicle movement.
Al Othmani highlighted the environmental benefits of the new system, noting its role in reducing harmful emissions caused by frequent stopping and starting. This directly supports Sharjah’s sustainability goals and efforts toward building a greener future.
The smart traffic signals use advanced technologies, including sensors and detectors that monitor traffic volumes and adjust signal timings accordingly.
