The General Directorate of Ports at the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 5 kilogrammes of marijuana concealed professionally within a traveller’s baggage at Zayed International Airport.
The operation started when customs inspection teams flagged the baggage of a passenger passing through the airport’s advanced screening systems. The devices detected anomalies indicating the presence of concealed contraband, prompting a manual inspection by specialised teams. With the assistance of the K9 unit’s sniffer dogs, trained to detect narcotics, the illicit drugs were discovered.
ICP emphasised its commitment to enhancing inspection systems by employing cutting-edge technology and equipment to safeguard society from the dangers of narcotics. These efforts serve as a deterrent to anyone attempting to compromise national security, aligning with broader national initiatives to protect public safety and stability.
ICP also highlighted its dedication to adopting innovative and advanced methodologies to combat drug and hazardous material smuggling, particularly in response to evolving criminal tactics and escalating challenges.
It underscored that protecting societal security, maintaining stability, and shielding youth from the harmful effects of drugs are among its top priorities.
