Dubai court jails woman for stealing Dhs7,000 handbag

The Misdemeanour Court in Dubai sentenced a European woman to one month in jail and deportation from the UAE after serving her sentence for stealing a women’s branded handbag valued at Dhs7,000.

The incident dates back to October 2024 when a salesperson at a handbag store in a Dubai shopping mall reported the theft of a women’s handbag from the store.

He stated that a man and four women had entered the store, inquired about the prices of some items, and left.
Shortly after, the theft of the handbag was discovered.

The salesperson reviewed the store’s CCTV footage and observed the suspected woman stealing the handbag while he was engaged in conversation with the group she was with.

The police was immediately notified, and a search for the suspect was initiated. According to the case file, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) gathered evidence, analysed the CCTV footage, and identified the suspect who was arrested and, during questioning, admitted to stealing the handbag while shopping with her siblings at the mall in Dubai.
