UAE President congratulates Pope Leo XIV, wishes him success in promoting coexistence

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, congratulated His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on Thursday on his election as Pope of the Catholic Church.
Sheikh Mohamed said, “I extend my sincere best wishes to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on his appointment as head of the Catholic Church and wish him success in continuing to promote mutual understanding, peace, and harmony throughout the world.”
Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected in a surprise choice to be the new leader of the Catholic Church on Thursday, taking the name Leo XIV, becoming the first US pontiff.
Pope Leo, appeared on the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica around 70 minutes after white smoke billowed from a chimney atop the Sistine Chapel signifying the 133 cardinal electors had chosen a new leader for the 1.4 billion-member Catholic Church.
