Armed Forces protective shield of Union, says Fujairah Ruler

His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, said the decision to unify the Armed Forces, issued on 6th May 1976, remains a source of pride in the UAE’s military, which today stands as a global model in safeguarding the security and stability of the nation.

He affirmed that this decision reflects the vision of the Founding Fathers, who believed in the importance of building a strong army capable of protecting the homeland and preserving its gains.

In a statement marking the 49th anniversary of the unification of the Armed Forces, Sheikh Hamad added that the Armed Forces are a cornerstone of the nation and one of the most vital pillars of the Union.

The historic unification decision is a shining milestone in the UAE’s history, symbolising deep faith in the union’s success under a central leadership and unified military structure, devoted to protecting national security and furthering the UAE’s role in promoting peace, supporting the distressed, and contributing to regional and global stability.

Sheikh Hamad praised the accomplishments of the Armed Forces, particularly in the defence industries sector, where they have achieved significant advances in modern technologies and the development of highly qualified national military cadres. This, he said, enhances the operational readiness of the forces and ensures their ability to confront various challenges, placing them at the forefront of leading military institutions globally.

He noted that the unification of the Armed Forces represents a renewed pledge of loyalty and belonging to the homeland and leadership, serving as a pivotal point in the journey of the nation’s sons and a reflection of the country’s achievements and challenges. It reaffirms the importance of national unity and social cohesion in achieving a bright future for the next generations.

He also paid tribute to the UAE’s fallen heroes who embodied the motto "We sacrifice our souls for you, O homeland" and who wrote the finest stories of courage and duty on the battlefields out of love and sacrifice for the country.

Sheikh Hamad expressed his pride in all members of the Armed Forces and extended his appreciation for their efforts in maintaining the UAE’s security and stability, saying, "You are the protective shield of our Union and its proud march."

He conveyed his warmest congratulations to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai; Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates; and His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, as well as the officers and personnel of the Armed Forces, and to the proud people of the United Arab Emirates.

"Every year, we reaffirm our dedication to the national duty. May the UAE remain proud, strong and ever-progressing," he said.
