The Ministry of Interior's statistics on the number of traffic accidents by cause for 2024 revealed that sudden swerving is the most prominent cause of accidents, with 827 accidents recorded in the UAE.
Distraction from the road while driving a vehicle in any form was the second most prevalent cause, with 776 accidents during the same period. The Ministry identified approximately 66 causes that lead to accidents.
Statistical analysis reveals that Abu Dhabi recorded 52 accidents due to sudden swerving during the past year (2024), while Dubai recorded 676 accidents during the same period for the same reason.
Sharjah recorded 14 accidents, Ajman 5 accidents, Umm Al Quwain 7 accidents, Ras Al Khaimah 22 accidents, and Fujairah 51 accidents.
Statistical analysis indicates that Abu Dhabi recorded 510 traffic accidents last year due to distracted driving, while Sharjah recorded 188 accidents during the same period for the same reason, Ajman 34 accidents, Umm Al Quwain 5 accidents, Ras Al Khaimah 28 accidents, and Fujairah 11 accidents.
The emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, in particular, have experienced a significant number of accidents, with 76 and 518 accidents recorded, respectively.
The emirate of Sharjah has also been affected, with 9 accidents, while Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah have each recorded 7, 7, 24, and 20 accidents, respectively.
The total number of accidents attributable to negligence and inattention amounted to 455 during the previous year (2024), with the emirate of Abu Dhabi recording 77 accidents, Dubai 241, Sharjah 44, Ajman 27, Umm Al Quwain 19, Ras Al Khaimah 35, and Fujairah 12.
The statistical analysis identified 66 potential causes of accidents, including negligence and inattention, entering the street before ensuring it is clear, running a red light, not giving priority to pedestrian crossings, speeding without considering road conditions, driving against the direction of traffic, reversing without ensuring the road is clear, and not obeying traffic signs.
