An Arab, in collaboration with another man of a different nationality, swindled Dhs9,000 from a Gulf citizen after deceiving him into installing a private parking shed in his home.
The Dubai Misdemeanor Court sentenced the defendant to one month in jail to be followed by deportation and fined him and his accomplice Dhs9,000.
According to the official document, a Gulf citizen filed a complaint in January in which he stated that he had been swindled by a person, who deceived him into installing a parking shed inside his house.
The victim stated that the defendant agreed with him to complete the work for Dhs19,000, adding that the defendant asked him to pay a down payment of Dhs9,000 and gave him an account number to transfer the money to.
The victim transferred the Dhs9,000 to a bank account in the name of the second defendant upon the first defendant’s request, but the first defendant procrastinated, pleading that the money was transferred by mistake to another account and that he did not receive any money. Consequently, the victim reported what happened to the police.
A policeman stated in the interrogations that investigations showed that the two defendants were previously convicted with the same charge and that several reports were submitted against them by other victims.
The first defendant was arrested and on interrogation, he denied that he had any connection with the victim, adding that he did not receive any money from him.
However, further investigations and the messages exchanged between them showed that the first and second defendants were involved in deceiving the victim.
