In a heart-warming gesture, an egg donated by a poor family for the construction of a mosque in Kashmir was auctioned and fetched over Rs 220,000.

The Kashmiris took it upon themselves for the humble gesture of the family and called for the auction of the egg.

The incident took place in the apple town of Sopore.

The farming town inhabitants were asking for donations to erect a mosque at Malpora village and it is when the son and his mother who survive on bare-minimum donated an egg for the mosque.

A member of the mosque committee said, "We were collecting donations when a woman from a small house came to me with her head down and held an egg and asked me to accept it."

The member said that this woman is a very poor widow and lives in a small dilapidated house with her only son.

Moved by the action, the mosque committee accepted the egg.

They also hatched a plan to put it up for auction.

The news of the simple auction reached every corner of the village and people showed up to buy the egg for the mosque.

Like any other auction, the egg exchanged many hands with buyers, who would eventually return it for another auction to raise more money for the mosque.

A man named Danish Bhat, a local businessman, purchased the egg for Rs 70, 000, the highest in the auction list for an egg.

The total amount of money raised for the mosque was over Rs220,000.

A committee member for the mosque said that the auction was complete and confirmed the amount raised for the mosque.

The committee said that the egg was sold more than 60 times.
