A Pakistani fisherman from Sindh province became millionaires after he captured rare Suwa fish.

Hanif Katiyar, an experienced fisherman from Kharo Chan, Sindh province, made the catch, as confirmed by Kamal Shah, spokesperson of the Coastal Media Center Ibrahim Hydari.

As per details, Katiyar and his team hauled in over 300 rare Suwa fish, bringing joy to fishermen and the crew. The price of rare Suwa fish caught near Keti Bandar is over millions.

The Suwa fish, known for its rarity and exceptional value, was found ensnared in the nets of Katiyar's boat, marking a momentous achievement in the local fishing industry.

"The significance of this catch cannot be overstated," remarked Kamal. "These Suwa fish are highly sought after for their rarity and exquisite taste, commanding prices that can fetch enormous sums in the market."

Indeed, the Suwa fish holds a revered status among fishermen and seafood enthusiasts alike, with its scarcity only adding to its allure. However, the lucrative nature of this catch often leads to clandestine dealings, as some fishermen opt to keep their hauls a closely guarded secret to avoid potential conflicts or theft.

"It's not uncommon for fishermen to exercise caution when it comes to the sale of Suwa fish," Kamal explained. "The fear of being targeted by unscrupulous individuals who seek to exploit the value of these rare specimens is a legitimate concern."

Despite the challenges posed by the clandestine nature of the trade, the discovery of such a bountiful haul serves as a testament to the resilience and skill of Thatta's fishing community.

Earlier, local fishermen from Balochistan’s coastal city Gwadar accidentally caught a rare ‘sunfish.’ Fishermen in Gwader were amazed at what they accidentally caught in their nets on Friday. A rare fish breed named ‘Sun Fish’ was caught by the fishermen.

Experts say that the ‘sunfish’ is often found in the deep sea and weighs over 2 tonnes.

In July 2021, lady luck smiled on a fisherman when he landed a rare fish weighing 26 kilogrammes off Balochistan’s Jiwani coast. According to details, the fish, locally known as Sowa, fetched Rs676,000 at an auction at a local fish market.

This is the third such catch in a week’s time. Earlier, on May 30, a rare Sowa (croaker) fish caught off the coast of Jiwani was sold for a hefty sum of Rs8.6 million.

The rare croaker fish weighed 48 kilogrammes. Deputy Director of Fisheries Ahmed Nadeem confirmed that a fisherman named Waheed Baloch, hailing from Gwadar’s Pishukan village and a resident of Koh-e-Sar Bazar has become a millionaire overnight.
