2-hour-reduction of working hours during Ramadan in UAE begins from Monday

The number of work hours would be reduced by two during the Holy Month of Ramadan, and the decree will be put into effect as of Monday (11 March, 2024), according to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).

Companies have the option to follow flexible or remote work schedules within the limits of daily working hours during Ramadan, and in accordance with the nature of work.

During Ramadan, private sector employees’ working hours will be reduced by two hours daily and any additional hours worked beyond the reduced schedule may be considered overtime, for which workers will be entitled to extra compensation.

The working hours resolution will be applied to both fasting and non-fasting employees, facilitating their participation in spiritual activities and cultural practices during Ramadan,

MoHRE indicated, adding that during the holy month of Ramadan all ministries and federal agencies will work from 9am to 2.30pm from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, working hours will be from 9am until 12 noon, unless the nature of the work necessitates otherwise.
