The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai announced that it has banned the use of electric scooters on Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram trains, starting from Friday, March 1, in order to preserve everyone’s safety.

The RTA said on the X, “To ensure your safety and that of others, the use of E-scooters inside #DubaiMetro and #DubaiTram will be prohibited, starting Friday, March 1, 2024. #YourSafetyOurPriority”

The RTA said riders require a traffic permit that can be obtained through an electronic platform launched by RTA on its website that allows the public to obtain free permits, which qualify them to use this type of flexible transportation in the areas and streets that it has specified.

The permit will allow riders to use e-bikes and e-scooters as flexible means of transportation in the designated areas and streets.

Safety guidelines for riding an electric scooter:

. Drive scooter only in allocated areas

. Make way for pedestrians

. Stay within the speed limit and reduce speed in public areas

. Refrain from using the scooter in crowded areas

. Alert others before passing

. Maintain a safe distance on the track, especially overtaking to avoid collision

. Do not direct headlights at others on the track

. Do not swerve quickly at curves
