The UAE continues its unwavering support for the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip through the “Gallant Knight 3” humanitarian operation, launched under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has distributed 29,374 bread bundles benefiting 293,830 individuals as of Feb.21.

The move is part of a bakery project initiated by the ERC to alleviate the severe shortage of bread within the Gaza Strip and ease the harsh humanitarian conditions they currently endure.

Israeli strikes killed at least 48 people in southern and central Gaza overnight, half of them women and children, health officials said on Thursday, as European foreign ministers and UN agencies called for a ceasefire, with alarm rising over the worsening humanitarian crisis and potential starvation in the territory.

Israeli strikes have killed at least 71 people in southern and central Gaza in about 24 hours, the territory's health officials said on Thursday.

Meanwhile, tensions are rising in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, where three gunmen opened fire on Thursday morning on a road near a checkpoint, killing one Israeli and wounding at least five, police said. Two of the attackers were killed. A third was found later and detained.

European diplomats are stepping up calls for a ceasefire, as alarm grows over the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian UN ambassador Riyad Mansour told reporters that "we will begin the process of marching to the Security Council for the admission of the state of Palestine," and denounced Wednesday’s vote in Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, which saw 99 of its 120 members reject any unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state.

The Israeli military says a Palestinian killed by a drone strike in the occupied West Bank was a member of the Islamic Jihad and was about to carry out a shooting attack.

The strike late on Thursday hit a car driven by Yasser Hanoun, a resident of the Jenin refugee camp, the army said. It alleged that Hanoun was previously involved in several shooting attacks targeting Israeli settlements and army posts.

Israel will control security in a demilitarised Gaza Strip and play a role in civilian affairs after its war on Hamas ends, according to a plan Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu submitted to his Cabinet for approval.
