Sharjah launches 10 environment friendly electric buses

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) announced the launch of 10 electric buses, to operate within the SRTA’s transport fleet.

Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of the SRTA revealed that the addition of the new buses aims to strengthen the authority’s mass transportation fleet, which reflects the importance of relying on environmentally friendly means of transportation.

Al Othmani affirmed that the SRTA is adopting a number of development initiatives and plans with a sustainable course, to encourage the use of mass transportation in a way that meets aspirations for the shift towards green transportation, to reduce environmental impacts, and reduce energy consumption.

He added that the SRTA has actually put these initiatives into effect at the level of intercity buses, in addition to taxis, with the aim of spreading the idea of green transportation to all of the authority’s transport fleet.

Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Jarwan, Director of the SRTA for Transportation Affairs, explained that the new buses are of the “King Long” model with a set of standard specifications.

These, according to Al Jarwan, are 9 metres long, and the capacity of bus amounts to 22 passengers. They also have international safety specifications and have obtained a European safety certificate, in addition to being air-conditioned, and operating with a battery cooling system which suits the climatic conditions in the UAE.
