UAE citizens in Japan advised to move to safe areas after earthquakes and tsunami warnings

The UAE Embassy in Tokyo has called on all citizens present in the areas affected by the recent earthquake and weather turbulences in Japan to exercise caution, after an earthquake had been reported in Ishikawa Prefecture.

“We also stress the need to follow safety instructions issued by the Japanese authorities and to contact the embassy in emergency cases via 0097180024 or 0097180044444, as well as the need to register in the “Tawajodi” service,” the Embassy added.

This was after a massive earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6 had hit central Japan on Monday, triggering a tsunami warning and advisories for residents to evacuate, Reuters reported.

A tsunami around 1 metre high struck parts of the coast along the Sea of Japan with a larger wave expected, public broadcaster NHK reported.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued tsunami warnings for the coastal prefectures of Ishikawa, Niigata and Toyama.
