Wounded Gazans — including children — arrived at Al Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah.

One of those brought to the hospital is a 14-year-old Maria Abu Assi, who was rescued on Tuesday after spending four days, along with her sister, trapped under the rubble of a building destroyed by an Israeli attack.

The team who conducted the rescue say their ambulance was fired upon as they worked, with two paramedics injured. Images show the damage done to the vehicle. "There was no warning whatsoever," said Wael Al Mani, a paramedic.

The war has killed more than 16,200 people in Gaza - 70% of them women and children - and wounded more than 42,000, according to the territory's Health Ministry, which released new figures late on Tuesday. The ministry does not differentiate between civilian and combatant deaths, but its overall tally tracks with a figure released by the Israeli military this week.

The ministry says hundreds more have been killed since the cease-fire ended Friday, and many still are trapped under rubble.

The military accuses Hamas of using civilians as human shields when the militants operate in residential areas. But Israel has not given detailed accounts of individual strikes, some of which have leveled entire city blocks.
