A woman working in a beauty salon posted photos of former clients on social media without their permission to promote a new store she was working for.

The Dubai Court of Misdemeanors ruled that she be fined Dhs150,000 and deported from the country.

The Court of Appeal upheld the fine but annulled the deportation charge and ruled that the defendant be obligated to delete the photos from social media and the mobile phone she was using to be confiscated. 

The case dated back to May last year when a Gulf woman reported to the police that a woman, who used to work for her, posted photos of clients of her beauty parlour located in Al Safa area in Dubai on social media with the intention of promoting another beauty salon without her knowledge.

The woman stated that she saw a collection of photos of her beauty parlour’s clients posted on a page of another beauty parlour in a number of social media sites and apps, adding that the defendant used to work for her but quit several months ago to work in another beauty parlour in the same area.

After she was summoned, the defendant, 22, admitted that she had posted the photos to promote the new beauty parlour she was working for after quitting work with her previous employer.
