Abdullah Bin Zayed, FM of Canada discuss bilateral relations

Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Mélanie Joly discuss opportunities available to develop cooperation.

Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, in Abu Dhabi, to discuss bilateral relations and means to strengthen them in a way that serves the mutual interests of the two countries and their peoples.

The two sides discussed the opportunities available to develop bilateral cooperation in several fields, including economic, trade, investment and energy.

Sheikh Abdullah and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada also explored opportunities for cooperation in the environment and climate change, within the framework of the UAE’s hosting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) this year in Expo City Dubai.

Sheikh Abdullah welcomed Mélanie Joly, expressing his hope that her visit would contribute to pushing Emirati-Canadian relations towards broader horizons of growth and development. He highlighted the distinguished bilateral relations and the aspiration to invest in all available opportunities in order to expand joint cooperation in all fields to support their development goals.

The two ministers also discussed the latest developments in the Middle East region and ways to protect all civilians from the repercussions of the current crisis as well as efforts to scale up the humanitarian response to the needs of civilians.

The discussions also stressed on the importance of working in a coordinated manner at regional and international levels in order to end extremism, tension and escalating violence in the region and protect the lives of civilians.

UAE Ambassador to Canada Fahad Saeed Al Raqbani, attended the meeting.
