Two Asians attempted to kidnap a woman and her boyfriend, threatened to kill them and stole Dhs11,000 that was in the woman’s possession in collaboration with two others, who are still at large.

They, however, were arrested and referred to the public prosecution and then to the Dubai Criminal Court, which sentenced them to three years in jail to be followed by deportation and fined them the stolen amount. The verdict was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

The case, which took place in Dubai Investments Park, dates back to October last year and when the guard of a building told the police that a woman and her boyfriend had been injured in a parking space opposite the building he was guarding.

According to the guard, a man entered his room in the early morning and asked him to call an ambulance because his girlfriend was injured.

When he went to the place, he found a woman bleeding and a vehicle moving fast away from the place, he said, adding that he then called the police.

The boyfriend stated in the interrogations that as soon as he and his girlfriend arrived at her house in Dubai Investments Park at 3:00am, he saw a number of people rushing towards his girlfriend’s vehicle where they assaulted him and his girlfriend and threatened to kill them with a knife.

Another defendant used a stick to assault his girlfriend and force her into their vehicle, but he asked them to leave her and tried to resist them, he said.

Later, he got into the defendants’ vehicle where a defendant seized the bag of his girlfriend after the latter told them that she would give them whatever they wanted and that she suffered from a heart disease and could lose her life at any minute, he said.

At this point, the defendants left him and his girlfriend but the driver ran over his girlfriend before they fled away, he added.

A policeman stated in the interrogations that a team of detectives managed to identify the defendants and arrested two of them.

On interrogation, one of the defendants admitted that he and others decided to rob the victim after another woman, who is still at large, had told them that the victim had money that could be seized after kidnapping her.

Another defendant admitted that he had been assigned to monitor the woman’s movements and so he installed a GPS device in her vehicle and waited for her to return home along with the other defendants.
