In a shocking incident, a crocodile managed to kill Jesus Alberto Lopez Ortiz (Chucho), a professional soccer player in Deportivo Rio Cana in the Costa Rican league.

The crocodile attacked him while he was swimming in a river in Santa Cruz.

In a circulating video, the crocodile appears to be dragging the body of the player in the river in northwest Costa Rica.

The police also had to shoot and kill the crocodile to recover the body of the 29-year-old.

The player was doing physical exercises when he decided to go for a swim.

He jumped off a bridge on the Kanas River, the player's neighbours told the local police sergeant.

The police said in a statement, "Unfortunately, the crocodile drowned him, and we do not know if he died by drowning or because of the crocodile bite."
