UAE temporarily suspends export and re-export of Indian rice

The Ministry of Economy (MoE) announced a temporary suspension of the export and re-export of rice for a period of four months starting from Friday, July 28, 2023.
The decision was made in accordance with the Ministerial Resolution No. 120 of 2023.
The decision includes suspension of export and re-export of rice originating from India, including free zones, imported into the country after July 20, 2023.
This implies on all rice varieties under the Harmonized System code of the Common Customs Tariff (1006), namely husked rice (pink and brown rice), husked rice (black rice), wholly or partially milled rice, whether anointed and polished, and crushed rice.
The Ministry explained that the companies willing to export or re-export these rice varieties must apply to the Ministry of Economy for an export permit.
The request must be supported by necessary documents that verify shipment data such as country of origin, transaction date, and any other requirements the Ministry may ask for.
It also pointed out that the companies seeking to export or re-export rice varieties that are not originating from India must also apply to the Ministry of Economy to get an export permit.
The request must be supported by necessary documents that support verification of the origin of shipment intended to be exported.
The MoE stressed that the export permit is valid for 30 days from the date of its issuance.
These permits will be required by the concerned customs department to continue customs procedures for exporting rice shipment. Applications can be submitted electronically via (e.economy@antidumping) or through the Ministry of Economy's headquarters.
The Ministry also stated that the suspension would be extended automatically unless a decision to cancel it is issued.
