An Emirati, 38, died on Wednesday in Wadi Al Helo area, Kalba City, after he was run over by a car while he was performing his job duties.

According to Colonel Dr. Ali Al Kay Al Hamoudi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department at Sharjah Police, the operations room received a report stating that a run-over accident took place on the public road in the Wadi Al Helo area in Kalba City.

Police patrols and the national ambulance rushed to the scene of the accident and transported the injured man to the hospital but he succumbed later to his serious injuries.

Al Hamoudi explained that investigations into the accident circumstances showed that the deceased, who worked for Kalba Municipality, was performing his duties when he stopped his municipality vehicle by the side of the road and got out of it after taking the necessary preventive and safety measures.

By this time, a vehicle coming at an excessive speed collided with the victim’s municipality vehicle, which, in turn, hit him without leaving him any chance to avoid the accident.

As a result of the accident, the man sustained serious injuries before he died.

On interrogation, the man who caused the accident stated that he lost control of the vehicle after he had felt sleepy. He was later referred to the Public Prosecution so that legal measures would be taken against him.

Al Hamoudi expressed his sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and his regret over the occurrence of that tragic accident, stressing the need for motorists to abide by traffic rules and speed limits on highways and to stop in a safe traffic area once they feel tired and exhausted for their own safety and that of road users.
