Sharjah Police arrest driver in hit and run accident

Sharjah Police arrested within 48 hours a driver who ran over a woman, causing her moderate to serious injuries in a hit and run accident. Earlier, Sharjah Police’s operations room received a tip-off at 06:07pm on Sunday that a runover accident took place on King Faisal Street near Sharjah Industrial Area 4, as a result of which a woman sustained moderate to serious injuries, while the driver fled away from the scene.

The competent bodies at Sharjah Police, who were on the lookout of the perpetrator, managed to identify and arrest him within 48 hours only. They also seized the car that caused the accident through the vehicle tracking systems and smart cameras that monitor all vehicles roaming the emirate. Sharjah Police stated that fleeing the scene of the accident is another crime punishable by law, thereby the perpetrator had committed two crimes.

Sharjah Police called on the public to take caution while crossing streets and to use zebra crossing to do so, stressing that they will not be lenient en enforcing the law on offenders for the safety of road users. They also called on motorists to abide by the speed limits on the emirate’s roads and keep the mandatory lanes to avoid accidents and save lives.
