Musk’s ‘Twitter Hotel’ comes under San Francisco civic body’s radar

Billionaire Elon Musk, the boss of Twitter and Tesla, seems to have taken the I-will-do-what-I-want doctrine a tad too far. State officials in San Francisco officials are investigating the social media giant, which has its headquarters in the city, after six former employees charged that Elon Musk had turned it into a ‘Twitter Hotel’ for staff being made to stay up late to transform the social media platform.

Musk took over the reins of Twitter late last year.

The allegation came after the ex-staff, including a former vice president of real estate, filed a complaint in a federal court in Delaware that Twitter didn’t pay them the promised money after sacking them. Twitter is bent on dismissing the case.

Musk’s team made some changes to the headquarters, violated building codes in the process. This included disabling lights and adding locks that wouldn’t open during an emergency, according to the Associated Press.

The eccentric magnate had transformed office space into a bedroom in December 2022, according to a BBC report.
