The Abu Dhabi Police (ADP), in cooperation with the Follow-up and Control Centre, and within the framework of its initiative “You Comment” and the "Road Safety" campaign, broadcast a video showing the risks resulted from not leaving a sufficient safe distance and confusing motorists on the road.

The video showed a hatchback car was driving very slowly on the fast lane.
A speeding sedan tailgating the hatchback tries to overtake it over the yellow line, but hits the car.

Bot the vehicles lost control in the busy traffic and hit the right side fence on the road.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate of the Central Operations Sector at ADP called on drivers to adhere to the correct lane when driving at slow speeds, for the safety of everyone, explaining that the fine of not giving way to vehicles coming from the back or the left and have advantage to overtaking is Dhs400.

The Directorate also pointed out that not leaving a safety distance between vehicles is one of the main reasons for traffic accidents, indicating that bad act is subject to Law No. 5 of 2020 regarding the impoundment of vehicles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which obligates the owner of the vehicle Dhs5,000 to release it.

The vehicle in this case is impounded for a maximum period of 3 months until the fine is paid.

In case it is not paid, the vehicle is sent to sale in a public auction.

Also, Item “52” of the Traffic Control rules and procedures “178” for 2017 will be applied on violating drivers for not leaving a sufficient safety distance, as they will be fined Dhs400 and 4 black traffic points.
