The Abu Dhabi Court for Family and Civil and Administrative Cases obligated an employer to pay an employee Dhs100,000 in compensation for the damages he suffered after he lost 90% of his eyesight during his work, due to the employer's failure to provide means of security and safety.

The complainant filed a lawsuit in which he requested that the employer pay him an amount of Dhs200,000 in compensation for the material and moral damages he sustained as a result of the injury, and a legal interest of 12% from the date of filing the lawsuit until full payment, in addition to the fees and expenses of the lawsuit and the lawyer’s fees.

The complainant explained that during his work and due to the lack of security and safety means, he sustained injury in the eye, and he filed a lawsuit upon which the employer was fined Dhs10,000 in absentia, in addition to Dhs90,000 in compensation for the permanent disability which afflicted him, according to the forensic report.

The court indicated that the criminal judgment has become final and that the complainant has lost 90% of his sight, which represented a permanent disability, in addition to the moral damages and psychological pains he suffered, and then ruled that the employer be obligated to pay the complainant Dhs100,000 in compensation for all damages, besides the fees and expenses, while it rejected the claim of the legal interest.
