The Anti-Infiltrators Department at the General Department of Criminal Investigations at Dubai Police arrested a beggar who was claiming a disability by sitting on a wheelchair with one foot.

The police seized about Dhs3,000 in possession of the arrested person, who pretended that his one foot was amputated, and was handed over to the competent authorities.

Colonel Ali Salem Al Shamsi, Director of the Infiltrators Department, said that the beggar was Asian and had entered the country on a visit visa.

"Upon observing him closely it seemed that he was pretending to be unable to walk."

However, when he saw the police patrol approaching, he forget all about his 'amputated leg' and started running leaving behind the money he had collected. He was chased and arrested.

Al Shamsi explained that the campaign launched by the Dubai police contributed to reduce the number of beggars annually, thanks to the strict measures taken against the arrested beggars.

He pointed out that the General Department of Criminal Investigation annually develops an integrated security plan to combat beggary, by intensifying patrols in places where beggars are expected to be.
