President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday tweeted some old pictures of late Sheikh Zayed to mark the  Zayed Humanitarian Day, which falls on 19th of Ramadan every year.

Sheikh Mohamed recalled the generosity and compassion of late Sheikh Zayed saying these virtues of the ‘father of nation’ continue to inspire the UAE’s humanitarian work today.

"As we mark #ZayedHumanitarianDay we continue to be guided by the values the late Sheikh Zayed, who cared deeply about all people and their dignity,” tweeted Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed.

“His generosity and compassion touched lives around the world and continue to inspire the UAE’s humanitarian work today,” Sheikh Mohamed concluded.

The occasion translates values of loyalty to the legacy of the founding leader, the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It is an affirmation to continue his journey of giving.

The Zayed Humanitarian Work Day is also an occasion to celebrate the virtues and achievements of the late Sheikh Zayed, whose qualitative initiatives contributed to alleviating the suffering of people in all regions that witnessed conflicts and disasters away from any political, racial, or religious considerations.

It has become an annual platform to launch humanitarian and charitable initiatives from various national institutions to commemorate Zayed’s legacy and to follow his steps in giving and humanitarian work.

The value of development and humanitarian aid offered by the UAE during the period from 1971 to 2004 amounted to about Dhs90.5 billion, benefiting 117 countries.

The UAE’s giving approach stems from the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed, who established the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development in 1971 to serve as a help to brothers and friends by contributing to development projects and growth for their peoples.

In 1992, he also established the Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, to be an extended arm in giving and all its fields inside and outside the country. Sheikh Zayed succeeded in making humanitarian work in the UAE a way of life and civilised behaviour that is passed down from generation to generation.

Today, more than 40 donors and humanitarian and charitable institutions originate from the UAE, and their assistance covers all countries of the world and the needy and affected peoples.
