20 Umrah pilgrims killed in Saudi road accident

At least 20 people were killed and several others were injured after a bus carrying Umrah pilgrims was involved in a traffic accident on Aqabat Shaar Road in the Asir region.

Sources familiar with the details of the accident said that it occurred on Monday afternoon, as a result of a malfunction in the bus's brakes, which led it to collide with a bridge, according to local media.

The bus collided with the bridge, overturned and caught fire, trapping the passengers inside.

The Civil Defense and Red Crescent teams moved to the site of the accident, where the dead and injured were transferred to a number of hospitals in the Asir region.

The authorities are clearing the road to resume traffic movement.
