The Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa affirmed that there is nothing wrong with children celebrating the night of mid-Sha`ban with “Haq Al-Laila.”

The Council’s fatwa in this regard stated “The night of the middle of Sha’ban is one of the virtuous nights in which God bestows His pardon and forgiveness on His servants.

The Prophet (PBUH) said, “God - glory and majesty - appears to His creation on the night of the middle of Sha’ban, and He forgives His servants except for two: quarrels and a soul-killer.”

The fatwa confirmed that there is no legal objection to children celebrating this night and going out to it in the usual way in society, just as there is no objection to giving them gifts, such as sweets and others, to make them happy, as long as this is one of the inherited habits, which is not prohibited in the law.

The Haq Al Laila is celebrated on the 15th day of Sha’ban, serving as a precursor to the Holy Month of Ramadan.

On this night children are dressed up in traditional, colourful clothing while singing in their neighbourhood for sweets.
