10 'Tesla 3' vehicles join Sharjah's taxis

The Sharjah Road and Transport Authority (SRTA) has flagged off 10 "Tesla 3" electric vehicles, affiliated with the Etihad and Medina Taxi Companies, in support of the fleet of taxis.
 
The SRTA stated that it is working progressively to increase numbers of these vehicles in accordance with plans for the experimental operation of vehicles.
 
Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Head of the SRTA stressed that the launch of Tesla electric vehicles comes under the Green Economy Initiative for Sustainable Development, in order to promote environmentally friendly mobility solutions, as these vehicles are an important environmental solution to reduce carbon emissions, reduce fuel consumption rates, as well as reduce noise, maintenance costs and mechanical breakdowns.
 
According to Othmani, the number of taxis operating in the Emirate of Sharjah is more than 3,700, operated by 4 companies, each company's vehicles travel more than 7 million kilometres, with a fuel consumption rate of 122,100 litres per fleet, resulting in the production of tonnes of carbon emissions annually, which necessitated the SRTA's endeavour of the highest global sustainable transport practices, by exchanging international experiences and learning about the latest international developments in the field, which contributes to improving the level of services provided to the public and achieving the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
