UAE sent 60 aid planes to Turkey and Syria

The UAE continued to send relief aid to those affected by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey, as part of the operation known as Operation "Gallant Knight / 2."

The UAE, until Tuesday sent 30 cargo planes to Syria, as well as 30 cargo planes to Turkey, bringing the total number of flights to 60 so far.

These planes carried 1,375 tonnes of food, medical supplies and tents to shelter the affected people. The K9 unit of the UAE search and rescue team, in cooperation with the French rescue team, recovered two young men in their twenties, nine days after they were under the rubble, according to WAM.

The UAE search and rescue teams continue their efforts to rescue those trapped under the rubble through qualitative devices and equipment.  

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised the role of the UAE in providing support and relief to those affected by the earthquake in Turkey.

Speaking on the occasion of the World Government Summit in Dubai, Erdogan said: "The earthquakes affected 10 provinces, inhabited by about 20 million people. The disaster showed the importance of cooperation and concerted efforts among the whole world, and there is no doubt that economic and political challenges and climate change issues affect the achievement of sustainable development goals."
