A Turkish infant emerged from under the rubble of the earthquake after more than 128 hours laughing, and his smile caught the eye on social media, through a video circulating after he was pulled out from under the rubble.

Relief workers in the Antakya Bahatay region, one of the Turkish cities most affected by the devastating earthquake, succeeded in saving the two-month-old baby, who was pulled out from under the rubble after five days, alive and without any scratch on his face.

Norsa Keskin, the deputy chief physician at the hospital to which he was transferred, a pediatric specialist, explained that the child’s mother and father had not yet been found, adding: “The little one remained under the rubble for 5 days. Then he was transferred to the hospital by air ambulance, but his general condition is good. He is fine, but his treatment and monitoring continues until his condition is fully stabilized.

She added that the hospital staff is working hard to determine the identity of his family, in cooperation with the Public Prosecution Office, the police forces, and the Ministry of Family and Social Services, saying: “This child will remain with us until the completion of the search, and until then we are his mother and father.”
