Abu Dhabi Police have warned motorists against jumping the red lights in the emirate, as the violation will draw hefty fines and impounding of vehicles.

Abu Dhabi Police referred to Law No.5 of 2020, which talks about the impoundment of vehicles in case motorists jump red lights.

The Law No. 5 for 2020 on impoundment of vehicles indicates that a motorist who jumps the red light will be slapped with a fine of Dhs1,000 and 12 traffic black points and his vehicle will be impounded for 30 days, according to Abu Dhabi Police.

In order to release the vehicle, the motorist will be required to pay Dh50,000, they said, adding that his driver’s licence will also be withdrawn for 6 months.

The vehicle will continue to be impounded until the full fine for releasing the impoundment is paid within three months.
The police added that failing to pay the fees to release the vehicle, the car would be auctioned off.
