GCC Chief expresses solidarity with Turkey and Syria

Rescuers in Turkey and Syria dug with their bare hands through the freezing night hunting for survivors.

Jassim Mohammed Jassim Muhammad Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for Arab States, has expressed his condolences over the victims of the earthquake which struck Southeastern Turkey and Syria, leaving thousands of casualties.

In a statement on Monday, Al-Budaiwi affirmed the GCC member states' solidarity with the Turkish and Syrian peoples, wishing the injured a quick recovery.

Meanwhile, Kuwait is coordinating urgent relief aid campaigns for people affected by the massive earthquake that jolted parts of Turkey and Syria, reported the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

KUNA quoted Kuwait's Minister of Social Affairs Mai Al-Baghli saying on Monday that the ministry, under the supreme leadership's directives, is coordinating relief aid campaigns for affected people.

Charity and relief bodies across the country are being invited to participate in the endeavour, Al-Baghli told KUNA, adding that these organisations have already launched online donation campaigns to raise funds for the task ahead. ]]>
