A 62-year-old Emirati man died last Sunday evening, because of health complications, while walking on the Burj Al Rabi mountain path in Khorfakkan, the Sharjah Police stated.

“The man died, despite the rescue teams reaching him, taking him down and providing him with first aid, as his health condition was critical,” the police added.

Lieutenant-Colonel Saeed Rashid Al Hayaye, head of the Khorfakkan Comprehensive Police Station, stated that the operations room of the Eastern Region Police received a report that a person on the Jabal Al Rabi path was suffering from extreme fatigue, which made him unable to continue walking.

“Instantly, a patrol accompanied by rescue teams at the Civil Defence and the National Ambulance in Khorfakkan rushed to the reported location and were able to reach the spot of the man with the help of the people on the mountain path,” Al Hayaye said.

He was transferred by the National Ambulance to Khorfakkan Hospital for treatment, but he died, Lieutenant-Colonel Saeed Rashid Al Hayaye added. The Eastern Region Police urges the public who practise sporting activities on the mountain paths to make sure that they are fit enough to do such exercises and that they do not suffer from chronic diseases that may endanger them during exercise.

They are also advised to exercise all safety and security precautions and use safe roads and paths when climbing mountains to ensure their safety. And in the event of emergency, contact the police via 092057555 or 999. Gulf Today, Staff Reporter
