A man was caught destroying cholera vaccines and removing drips from cholera patients at Limbe Health Centre in Blantyre, Malawi, claiming to be a nurse with the aim of killing patients and growing his coffin business.

The 33-year-old coffin maker, who is struggling to make sales, was caught removing IVF inserted into the veins of cholera patients on admission.

During the interrogation, the man said that this is an opportunity to make a fortune and grow his business.
During a periodic review of the patients, a nurse saw that the cholera drug that was put in the nutrients given to the patients and determined by the drops given during the treatment period, had been spoiled.

"These patients are now dehydrated, we are understaffed, and yet someone is doing something like this," said the nurse who exposed the spoilage. Chrissy Banda, a spokesman for the Blantyre District Health Office, confirmed the incident.

The health center staff arrested the accused before informing the police and the competent authorities took him into custody.

Malawi has been hit hard by cholera, which has killed 704 people since March 2022, including 17 people a few days ago.

The country has recorded 21,024 injuries since March, and there are currently 860 people in treatment centers nationwide.
