A mysterious fifty-year-old woman succeeded in smashing the window of New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's office on Thursday morning, while photographers captured footage of a samurai sword lying on the ground, and traces of a smoke bomb.

After quick moves by the New Zealand police, a 57-year-old woman was arrested.

Media reported that a person was seen smashing part of the office door and throwing something inside before smoke streamed through the building.

A small sword was found on the sidewalk, while a journalist reported that he heard firefighters warning a nearby shop owner not to "touch the sword handle."

"The incident was reported at approximately 8.20 am, when an object was thrown through a window," a police statement said.

The authorities tried to mitigate the effects of the incident on their citizens, by assuring that the arrested woman assists the police in their investigations, and that there is practically no search for another person.

Pictures showed the prime minister's office window smashed, while security and firefighters were deployed outside the building, while the prime minister is currently in Antarctica to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Scott base.

A spokesperson for Ardern confirmed that she was aware of the incident, and that no one was in the building at the time, without releasing more information.
