The anti-begging teams of the Sharjah Police, in 10 months, seized 1,111 beggars and street vendors, including 875 males and 236 females, of different nationalities.

This is part of the efforts made by the competent authorities to curb begging in order to protect property of members of the community.

The GHQ of Sharjah Police explained that beggars take advantage of people's desire of giving and their desire to do good, by creating false and misleading tricks in order to win the sympathy of community members to obtain money.

As some claim illness and the need for medicine and treatment and show fake medical reports.

While others beg by selling fake and counterfeit products or asking for cash for food.

The police warned against dealing with those groups, stressing that the country allocates official channels for charitable work to ensure that donations reach those who deserve it.

The police also stressed that the non-stop campaigns to combat begging rely on specialised teams working around the clock to monitor and end negative phenomena.

The GHQ of Sharjah Police called on community members to contribute to the elimination of such phenomena out of societal responsibility, by donating through authorised charitable associations and institutions.

It also urged residents to cooperate with the security departments by reporting any beggar monitored in any location via the toll-free number (901) or via the website www.shjpolice.gov.ae or the Sharjah “Sharjah Police” smart application.
