Popular messaging app WhatsApp was slowly coming back online by 0900 GMT on Tuesday, with some users in India, Asia and the United Kingdom saying they were able to send and receive some messages and videos.

Users across the world had reported issues with the platform earlier on Tuesday.

Earlier, many WhatsApp users reported facing issues with their chats globally. Even the UAE had been affected, as the application went down around 11.30am in the country.

In India, the affected cities included Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Lucknow, but users from the US, Germany, South Africa, Bahrain, Bangladesh and several other countries also complained on the platform that the service had been creating a disturbance and not working smoothly.

Users in India also faced trouble while sending images and videos.

People took to Twitter to report their problems with Facebook family apps, including posting memes and GIFs.

"Today online, one tick for both deliver and read messages. Is whatsapp down? #whatsapp #whatsappdown," a user wrote on Twitter.

"whatsapp is down in many countries, including Pakistan," another user wrote, according to Indo-Asian News Service.

WhatsApp services had also been hit in the UK.

Meanwhile, the platform hasn't shared any official statement on the matter.

Early this month, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger went down for millions of users, including in India, as they were unable to send or receive messages on social media platforms.

Not only smartphone users but even WhatsApp web and WhatsApp desktop apps were also down. It's not clear how much time it will take for WhatsApp services to return to normalcy.

Downdetector is reporting a major increase with over 6,000 reports registered online. Users were complaining that their messages were not getting delivered.

There is no official response or acknowledgement from WhatsApp.
