Sharjah Police’s Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Wednesday managed to arrest a woman who blackmailed a person on one of the emirate’s roads after an audio clip of the blackmailed person went viral on social media, explaining the blackmail and fraud that he was subjected to.

A team of CID detectives was immediately formed to search for and identify both the defendant and the victim.

Following intensive investigations and after gathering inferences, the team managed to identify both and to arrest the woman within less than 24 hours after the audio clip went viral.

More legal measures in this connection are underway.

Sharjah Police stated that they are always ready to curb any negative behaviours or practices that may harm the community and threaten its security, noting that the quality of security life for the UAE community is one of its most important priorities.

Meanwhile, Sharjah Police call on the public to resort to the competent authorities and immediately report any incident that may occur, requesting them not to post it on social media channels as this has a negative impact on the security of society and may hold them legally responsible.
