An explosion near a mosque rocked Kabul after Friday prayers, authorities said.

The authorities said there were several victims but the number was not yet known.

Police said there were no immediate claims of responsibility.

The blast was the latest in a deadly string of attacks at mosques during Friday prayers in recent months, some of which have been claimed by the militant group Daesh.

"After the prayer, when people wanted to come out of the mosque, there was an explosion," Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said.

"All the victims are civilians, the exact number is not yet clear.

“The blast occurred in Wazir Akbar Khan, an area that once known as the city's Green Zone, home to numerous foreign  and NATO embassies, but now controlled by the ruling Taliban.
